Title

Setting Fractures

Subject

Nurse Dorothy Managan and US Army Nurse Corps Recruits Training

Description

This photograph shows US Army Nurse and instructor of new recruits, Dorothy Managan (on gurney), smiling with nursing recruits as they practice setting a fracture and carrying a patient on a gurney. These kinds of activities were exactly what these women would have to perform in the field, especially if they traveled overseas, and would need to have the stamina to carry men usually larger than themselves quickly to evacuation planes, ships, vehicles, and hospital tents and buildings. Without soldiers to practice on, their instructor seemed to be the next best thing!
