Title

A Shortage of Nurses

Subject

US World War II Nursing Recruitment Poster

Description

While this recruitment poster seems a bit melodramatic, it is likely one of the few most realistic recruitment posters that circulated during the war. The nurse on this poster looks tired, overwhelmed, and is dressed in olive drab with no skirt in site, just pants. This is a much more accurate depiction of what most nurses were dealing with at war, contrary to some of the other posters displayed in this collection, such as the image of the nurse dressed in white, holding the wounded soldier, gazing dramatically up at the audience.
