Title
Canteen
Subject
US Army Nurse Corps Canteen used by nurse on Bataan
Description
This water canteen was used by one of the nurses who served in the Pacific theater on the island of Bataan. It is unclear whether or not the woman who used it was one of the prisoners of war held by the Japanese on Bataan, but this canteen is representative of the types of canteens primarily used by army nurses. They look bulky and are definitely unattractive, but according to nurses, these cateens and the standard issue helmets they received were the most useful and practical tools they had available to them during the war.
